Meditation is the single most powerful thing you can do to walk your spiritual path. It will improve every aspect of your life. The spiritual path is to discover what is already within you. What you seek, you already are. Your not going to download some "enlightened" software for your brain to run on. Your going to get out of your own way. Letting go of the posturing and identity that keeps you separate. Every step of your spiritual path lies within you. And meditation helps you discover this inner truth.
The "No Thought" style of meditation will help yourself catch your subconscious thoughts. It will bring your subconscious thoughts into your conscious space. This will allow you to start to shift your subconscious habits towards what you DO want in your life experience.
Note: There are many different methods of meditation. And ANY meditation practice will have a positive influence on your life.
The important thing to do is to get an established routine. So everybody KNOWS not to bother you while the door is closed, etc. After you do it for a while, you will start to see a difference in yourself. And it just keeps getting better and better. If you have been doing 10 minutes daily for a few months, double the time to 20 minutes. I do 30 minutes every day unless something comes up and I miss a day.

Don't beat yourself up if you are having a tough time getting going. Just keep at it. I am strongly recommending the "No Thought" method. It will seem like an impossible task at first, but that is because you have so much conscious and subconscious dialog going in your head. If you find it difficult to slow down all the constant dialog, then you have the most to gain from it. When we first try to get a handle on our thoughts, they are rowdy, unbridled, insistent fellers. Just thank them as they show up and let go of them. Sometimes it is helpful to FEEL the sensation of your breathing. Feel your chest expand and collapse as you breathe. Don't end up thinking about your breathing, FEEL your breathing. It will get easier and easier as you go. Keep at it.
There is a 10 minute audio meditation you can download to help start your practice. I prefer to meditate in the morning, before my thoughts get their momentum going.
